Winter 2024
Using what’s called anthropometric data, or the science of how people hold things, the new handle feels great in your hands. It’s much slimmer and fits just right, almost like the triangular taper of a handle on a hammer. It makes sense and they have the reasons to back it up with data.
The new lineup includes a bunch of rods, 25 casting models and nine spinning, all built with bass anglers in mind. The blanks are a high-modulus SCIII carbon fiber for the graphite models and an S-glass for all Mojo Bass Glass cranking rods. They retail between $165 and $270, depending on the model and length and have a 5-year transferable warranty.
UPDATED AVID AND BASSX
These two rod series are well known, especially the Avid, which has been around for decades. Both have undergone an overhaul with changes that will only improve them.
Starting with BassX, it’s a 16-model series that was designed just for bass anglers. The biggest changes are a freshened look and a new handle design. They have the rock-solid SCII carbon fiber blank used on other St. Croix rods and stainless steel and aluminum oxide guides. They have models with cork and EVA grips, and all of them retail for $125.
The new Avid series also has a new look and they made some design changes to better fit the needs of anglers, such as lengthening the front of the reel handles in some of the spinning models. One thing they kept was the full-cork handle design that many anglers prefer. The rods are built with St. Croix’s SCIII+ blank material with a mix of SCVI carbon materials that makes them light, strong, and sensitive, similar to the popular Victory line of bass-specific rods.
The lineup is designed for multi-species fishing, but some models are perfect for bass fishing. The new Avid series includes four casting models and 16 spinning options, some in one-piece and some in a two-piece for easy transport and storage. The retail price for the new rods will be between $225 and $259, depending on the model.
Plenty of new items were displayed at the St. Croix booth at ICAST and they make a big splash by adding new reels while revamping three of their best and most popular rod lineups. After 75 years, St. Croix continues to be one of the leaders in fishing, with excellent quality products for all anglers.
