wonder, where in winter do bass wander? The biggest struggle in winter is not how to catch bass but finding where they are. This time of year, the greenery of highly populated vegeta- tion has died off or gone dormant. When vegetation dies, it depletes oxygen levels and fish generally leave this area for more suitable living conditions. There are some lakes in this country that inhabit cer-

tain types of vegetation that stays alive and green year round, if this is the case where you live, enjoy! For the rest of us, we must focus on other types of structure.

a great time for a winter bass outing is when there’s a break in the weather , maybe a warm rainstorm or even a couple warmer sunny days, anything to warm the water up just a couple degrees makes a huge difference. With the warmer water bass will warm up too, move around a bit more, maybe even move up shallow and/or suspend. Because of the various options for finding and catching bass, being well prepared is a huge time saver. For myself, other than being prepared with good warm layers of clothing, and anything else the weather may throw at me, my most important tools are my dobyns Champion Series rods. These will be rigged up with a jerkbait, spinnerbait, jig and drop shot, my wintertime arsenal. of course there are several variations you can use such as a swimbait instead of a spinnerbait, a Carolina rig instead of a jig, etc. i use dobyns rod’s because they are made out of quality materials, reliable, sturdy yet super sensitive, which is needed for a wintertime bass bite. Winter bass are very slow moving, and you are really trying to
