specific techniques. They are an affordable rod in the $220 range that comes with a 15-year warranty. That is the least expensive rod that you can buy with a 15-year warranty.

They have also launched the next generation of the Legend Tournament Bass line. This is a very high-quality rod with higher-end components – eyes, guides, blanks, handles – everything on it is high-end and it also comes with a 15-year warranty. These rods have 26 different technique-specific models.

In this line, St. Croix reimagined their existing Legend tournament Bass line, specifically with the western fishermen in mind and used California-inspired techniques to produce these rods. The focus of these rods is geared for common techniques that are popular or originated in California and each one has a specific length, action, power and handles that are geared to that technique – like swimbaiting, A-rigging, punching and even the float n’ fly.

WB: Tell us about that St. Croix Float-B-Fly rod. That technique has gotten a lot of hype in the past few years.

Frazier: That is one of the rods that I helped in the design of. Before this, there really wasn’t a fishing rod designed for that technique and St. Croix saw that need and brought the first one to market.

The rod originated from the walleye line. It was the rod

that the walleye fishermen used for a hair jig. The most

common rod that was used in the West for a hair

jig was at Havasu when fishermen would

throw the hair jigs for smallmouth.

They’re actually casting these

jigs, not on a bobber or a

float. That’s what that

original rod was

designed for.
