FIND FORAGE
Once I arrive at the lake or river, I’ll want to determine what the main forage is for the bass in this body of water is.
I’ll look shallow for any panfish swimming around. I’ll turn over a few rocks at the boat landing to look for crawfish, or as I’m idling out of the launch area, I’ll be looking on the horizon ahead and behind my boat to see if I’m spooking any bait fish. By determining what the bass are eating during the current conditions in this new body of water, I can begin to plan out what lures could work, along with possible color patterns.
As you are looking ahead to your next fishing trip, take some time and do your homework by taking a look at the lake map for that body of water, because the work you put in ahead of time can result in a very successful fishing trip.
