LBJ
In this case, “LBJ” doesn’t stand for former President Lyndon B. Johnson, but rather for “little brown jig.” Different anglers on different tours might use varying models, but just about all of them keep one rigged all the time.
Gerald Swindle, for one, has used the LBJ as a major force in his two Angler of the Year campaigns. It doesn’t have a radical skirt color, and it might be a ball head, Arkie-style or football version, but this represents crawfish everywhere and with a small plastic trailer on the back just plain catches fish.
Find one with the right head and hook for your preferred application and stock up, because if you’re putting them in the right places you might lose a few.
Fortunately, they remain relatively inexpensive. You can even pour your own.

FLIPPING CRAW
Speaking of jig trailers, there are a variety of soft plastic craws that are used across the board – not just on casting and

pitching jigs, but also for flipping grass, on
the back of swim jigs, even as a buzzbait
skirt replacement.
The Zoom Super Speed Craw and Ultra
Vibe Speed Craw are perfect examples, as is
the company’s Z Craw.
Just about every major soft plastics
company has their own – such as the Rage
Craw, Paca Craw Chigger Craw and Missile
Craw.
Choose the one you like best and go to
town. It might not be as obvious to flip as a
beaver-style bait, but there are times when
it is much more productive, and you don’t
need to carry lots of colors to do several
different jobs.
