everyone knew that Grand lake had the potential to kick out weights eclipsing the 20-pound mark each day. However, the storm fronts that came through really hampered the ability of anglers to move around and find that quality of fish as a whole. two anglers, Cliff Pace, of Petal, Miss. and Michael iaconelli of Pittsgrove, NJ. managed to exceed the 20-pound mark and tied for the day one lead with 21-pounds, 8-ounces.

Gerry Jooste set a record at the 2013 Bassmaster Classic by becoming the only B.a.S.S Nation (formerly Federation Nation) angler to qualify for the event five times. Many believe that the path to the Classic through B.a.S.S. Nation is the toughest route to qualify from; which makes his five qualifications impressive. even more impressive is the fact that he has done it each time coming from the african country of Zimbabwe. Jooste, who owns his own bass boat manufacturing company - roughneck Boats - is a true testament to the quality of anglers and people that make up the B.a.S.S. Nation.
