Being prepared for the worst-case scenario may not just save your day of fishing, but it could also save your life. I keep a dry set of clothes and a towel in a waterproof dry bag in one of the compartments in my boat, this way should you get wet; you can quickly dry off and put on some warm clothes.
Making it back to the ramp is every angler’s goal, which is why wearing an inflatable life jacket is important. I can fish in comfort and effectively all day in this and know that if I fell in, I would stay afloat.
Knowing what the upcoming weather is going to be will not only help you plan your fishing strategy for the day, but also help you make an informed decision on when to head off the water if inclement weather is on the horizon. So be sure to have a good understanding of the days weather forecast before heading out and be aware of any changes in that forecast.
Anytime you head on the water you should let another person know your plan for the day. This is extremely important during the periods of cold-water, as every minute will count should someone need to help you out while on the water.
