dropshot rigs using the DropSwimming technique (with QuickDrops Dropshot Weights). Horizontal options for the surface include poppers, walking surface plugs like Lucky Craft Sammys and Gunfish, wakebaits, buzzbaits, and frogs like the new Snag Proof Wobbletron.
Vertical options to consider adding to your suite include dropshot rigs, flipping and pitching jigs, punch rigs, spoons and ice jigs, and most noteworthy of all, the Yamamoto weightless Senko fished either Texas- style or wacky. Sometimes nothing beats the vertical fall and quivering tips of a weightless Senko pitched to a laydown or under a dock.
If you are limited on how
many rods you can have in
your suite, choose models
that will allow you to quickly
change style and type of
lures. A Lamiglas XP705R
for example is great for
crankbaits, jerkbaits (hard
and soft), and many other
horizontal approaches. A
4-power baitcast model
is perfect for football
jigs, C-rigs, or Texas-
rigged worms, while the
Infinity 703S is ideal for
dropshotting, light line
underspins, shakey heads
and dart heads.
Think about the
lakes and rivers you fish,
and what suite of rods you might assemble to be prepared for any and every opportunity. Good luck! Ciao, Marc Marcantonio.
