A
s the summer heat
rolls in, we can say
goodbye to the wonders of spring with a slight
feeling of remorse. The rolling
green hillsides fade from a
vibrant green to a light brown.
The spawn season will have
subsided and the bass will be on
a new program. However, one
thing is for sure. They will still
be eating, and sometimes they
will feed more often and more
aggressively. There are two
main reasons why.
First, the spawn can be
extremely strenuous and take
a toll on both male and female
bass. The act of clearing a nest,
laying eggs and then guarding
the offspring will wear them
out. And, for this reason, once
it’s completed, it’s time to
rejuvenate and establish a
healthy weight once again.
The only way to do this is to
feed heavily, relax and repeat
process.
Second, as the water
temperatures rises so does
the metabolism of any cold-
blooded creature. Meaning
