anglers and specific areas that the fish have located due to migration routes and time of year. One positive look at fishing in a crowd is when other anglers are catching fish this means that there are fish around and biting.

WB: How far will you travel on tournament days? Run time vs. fish time?

JM: I like to keep it to a maximum of one hour of travel time farthest from the launch ramp. This means only four to five miles from the ramp. I’ll make the long run early and fish my way back or start close and end up making the long run back. This depends on if I have fish close that are biting early. In kayak tournaments, the closer to the ramp you are the more likely you’ll have to fish in a crowd. It is a strategy

that I decide before I get on the water, but may change due to weather conditions or that gut feeling.

WB: Do you have any final tips or advice for angers who are wanting to give a multi-day event a try?

JM: Go for it!!! You’ll learn way more fishing consecutive days than just one day. You’ll see how the fish move and change due to changing conditions. The more consecutive days someone is on the water fishing, the better an angler becomes. It’s all about making the right adjustments to get more bites. The more time on the water, the better an angler becomes.
