here are many ways to target
bass with topwater throughout
the country. Some areas have niche presentations, and some have
home grown clicks that catch bass on a
consistence basis.
On the other hand, there are also
presentations that work from coast to
coast. One of these universal presentations
is a topwater frog and it is likely that you
will find topwater frogs in every angler’s
tackle box in one form or another.
Here, we cover some of the best frog tweaks to help put
more bass in the boat using this special class of bait.
INCREASE THE GAP
The first tweak came from the frog master himself – Mr. Dean Rojas. Using a pair of pliers, slightly open the hooks –
just a little bit to make them grab better when setting the hook.
It doesn’t matter which frog you are throwing all manufactures are setting the hooks to be as weedless as possible. Increasing the hook gap will give you a better hookup ratio.
Also, make sure that your hooks are sharp. Even though you have opened your hook gap, nothing will help keep fish buttoned up better than good sharp hooks.
