SCREENSHOT #2

The Lowrance 3D StructureScan

transducer is different than other structure scanning transducers in that it has multiple crystals which provide imaging returns from

multiple angles.

This configuration of crystals and

imaging software is necessary to construct

3-dimensional images allowing anglers

to better visualize what the bottom and

structure actually looks like.

In Screenshot #2, you can see the pronounced hump in 32-feet of water that is

marked by Waypoint 12. This was using an HDS Carbon several years ago set to display

the image in the 3D view.

SCREENSHOT #3

Screenshot #3 was taken with my Lowrance HDS LIVE- 12 using a StructureScan 3D module and transducer at Lake Washington near Seattle, Wash.

For most bass fishing applications, the StructureScan 3D is most useful when set to display in the standard 2-dimensional view mode (typical SideScan view).

The extra power and multiple crystals provide sharper and stronger images than other types of StructureScan transducers (All-in-One style). The DownScan image on the

bottom pane does a great job of showing the scaffolding in 3-dimensions.

The bottom substrate in this image is silt and mud which returns a weak signal and very little definition. Any hard spot will show as bright green with this color pallet, which you can see in the SideScan image in the top pane.

Note in the top pane how the image blacks out on both sides, at the outer margins. This occurs because the spot is a narrow ridge 40-feet deep on top, that drops off to 100-feet deep on both sides. A pile of metal scaffolding and a long strip of sheet metal lay on the ridge bottom.
