the next unit you want to use the structure scan transducer.

HDS TOUCH UNIT

The picture below is the back of a Touch unit. The far left blue connector is for the Broadband sonar transducer just like the keypad unit. The next black connector is the second sonar plug available on Touch units where the Structure Scan transducer plugs directly into the back of the unit eliminating the need for the module and Ethernet cable to make this connection. To place an Ethernet network between two HDS Touch units, just run an Ethernet cable between the two units plugging each end directly into

the yellow Ethernet plugs.

TRANSDUCERS

Another question that gets a lot of attention is installation of transducers. Where to locate them and which direction they should point. What do I use to “glass” a transducer into the bilge area of a fiberglass boat and the procedure to do this yourself

is a common question. Just use a wire wheel grinder or sand paper and clean the inside of the bilge area where you want the transducer to be located. Don’t get to rambunctious with this as you can wear a hole in your boat. We just want clean fiberglass to glue the transducer to. The answer to this question is to clean the area, get some plumbers putty, take a small amount and roll it in your hand to make about an eight-inch rope of the putty. Now make a small circle “dam” in the clean area of the bilge area. Get some two-part epoxy and fill the inside of this “dam” about a quarter inch deep. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the glue and take the transducer and place is in the glue. Put something heavy on the transducer to hold it in place overnight. In the morning you are done and your transducer is ready for action.

OTHER INFO

One final note that I would like to add, if you purchase any HDS product, make sure you go to www.lowrance.com and register your HDS unit to extend the 2 year factory warranty to 5 years with the Advantage Service Program.

When you are there check out the rebates available, Spotlight Scan for forward looking structure scan sonar on your trolling motor, and the new Chirp sonar coming out. Chirp is multiple frequency sonar in a single signal for enhanced target separation with reduced clutter. This is the introduction to the future of sonar because of the affordability and performance of this product. Be on the cutting edge of this exciting new trend in sonar.

In short www.westernbass.com is providing a fantastic forum to pursue and retrieve information previously difficult to obtain about your Lowrance electronics. Search and you will find.
