QUESTION #7

Another question I get is about Networking and which Lowrance units will network with other Lowrance units. For example, will an Elite CHIRP network with an HDS unit and will a HOOK unit share information with HDS units.

ANSWER #7

The Elite and HDS units can share Waypoints through the NMEA Network; but no other information, because of the basic nature of the Elite units. A HOOK unit is a stand-alone unit and does not Network with any other unit.

QUESTION #8

Many people have had RAM mounts at the console. With the newer boats, the console has been reworked to accommodate up to a 12-inch unit, flush mounted into the dash. Many people ask which method of mounting their Lowrance unit is best, flush mount or a RAM mount off to the side of the console.

ANSWER #8

Which method is “best” is more personal preference than it is which best. Let’s look at each method and you decide which is best for you. The flush mount Lowrance unit is out of the way; more secure from theft and has a neat and clean look. You cannot adjust the screen up or down to reduce glare and you can’t remove the unit if you like to store your units inside for security purposes.

I recently purchased a Ranger Z521C that had the Lowrance HDS Gen3 flush mounted in the dash of the console. I am only 5-feet, 8-inches tall and found the flush mount to be a little low; so the top of the steering wheel blocked the lower 1/3 of the screen.

Lowrance Single Unit Dash Mount

people (like me) see more of the screen at the console.

I ordered a Ranger type “C” single dash mount for a couple reasons. There is an unobstructed view of the screen while sitting in the seat. The other reason is that I can remove the unit easily and store the unit safely in a secure location.

I hope some of this information will help you continue to get more out of your Lowrance units and get you closer to graduating with your electronics degree!

Remember, the new Carbon HDS units have been announced. This is the next generation of HDS units that go beyond the current Gen3 units. Look for them in the near future. I hear that the screen is even better than ever before and you can view two separate transducers at the same time!

Good Fishing and God bless you all!
