QUESTION #1

I have a US2 transducer

built into the trolling motor.

Is this the best transducer

to see my dropshot on the

screen?

ANSWER #1

The universal transducer is an option when you purchase either a Minn Kota or MotorGuide trolling motor. It will work; but never as well as a brand specific transducer made to perform in partnership with the head unit. Lowrance has spent a lot of research and development money improving the quality of the Broadband Sonar transducer, especially with CHIRP in all the new HDS units.

The reason most people have difficulty seeing their bait on the screen (when dropping to fish on the screen) is that the jig, dropshot or bait of choice is not staying inside the cone all the way down.

The bait will need to stay in the coverage area of the ping or sound wave that the transducer is emitting to be seen on the Sonar screen. To do this, make sure the boat is very still, drop your bait right along side the trolling motor. As long as the boat is not drifting or moving, you will be able to see your offering all the way to the fish.

When the bait gets down to the fish, just hold it right there. I have found that if the fish are going to bite, holding the bait as still as possible will get the pressure bite typical of deep water bass.

It is my opinion that we fishermen move our baits more than is necessary, most of the time. Exceptions are always possible, especially when there is a reaction bite. Experiment often and let the fish tell you what they want.

QUESTION #2

I remember seeing someone who had a custom mount for his Lowrance unit up at the bow. Any idea where to get one?

ANSWER #2

I use the Comfortroll on my boat. Comfortroll makes the best one I have found and the other add on accessories like the tool holder and cup holder make this the best choice in my opinion.

QUESTION #3

I just got my new Lowrance HDS Gen3 unit and I am not sure if the power cable I had on my HDS Gen2 will work with the red power connection on my new HDS Gen3?

ANSWER #3

Yes, the blue power cable will work on the red connection on your new Gen3 unit. You will also notice that the new power cables have a red connection to match up with the red connector on the back of the new units. My guess is that Lowrance changed the color so in low light conditions at the ramp, it will be easier to know which cable is the transducer cable and which is the power cable. Instead of two blue connectors causing confusion, there is one blue for the transducer and one red, for the power cable.
