created by the bend or the outside of the bend. Here is where you will find the deepest water in the channel and in these holes are where bass will congregate, especially if you find bait in that bend. in February, here in Central Calif., these holes can load up with bass waiting for the right time to hit the spawning beds. Most upland reservoirs have long points extending out into the lake. These are the types of areas that will attract the migrating bass; some more than others. Search all the points and determine which ones have the kind of structure that the bass want to relate to as they move from deep to shallow. Here is where I use my Lowrance HDS 10’s paired with Structure Scan to find the points that will be most productive. i use the left and right side scan to look over the whole point - not only for the rocks, trees or brush on them - but also, if they are straight or have bends in their contour. The ones with slight bends will hold bass in those irregularities. The Structure Scan will also dissect those rock piles that bass love to relate to. There are so many differences in each rock pile. Some will be better than
others and if you can figure out why some hold bass the most, you will have one of those “keys” to link some of the pieces of this puzzle together. Look for things like the shape of the rock pile, the size of the rocks that make up the hump and where the hump is located in relation to deep water holding areas and the spawning areas. all these variables will come into play while looking for the migration routes that the bass use. in most lakes, it usually takes about three months for all the bass in the lake to spawn. This means early in the year you will be catching prespawn bass, then in the middle of this season you will find prespawn bass moving up and the first wave of spawners or post-spawn bass moving back out to deeper water to recover from the rigors of the spawn.
