Prespawn females will be the biggest bass in the lake and when they are full of eggs they weigh the most; so i target these bass whenever i can, especially in tournaments. The pre-spawn females will feed often as they move up to the bedding areas. This makes the biggest fish in the lake not only accessible in the spring; but also very willing to eat our artificial offerings. in other words, these bass are aggressively feeding when they are in the pre-spawn mode. Winter bass tend to suspend over deep water just above the thermocline, which is usually deep as the surface water temperature drops from fall into winter. states - the big girls start moving shallow from their winter haunts to start feeding up for the spawn and working their way to the spawning areas. This is an exciting time to be throwing swimbaits, jigs, swim jigs and other reaction baits, like a YUMbrella rig with a bunch of Money Minnows on it.
