Prespawn females will be the biggest bass in the lake and when they are full of eggs they weigh the most; so i target these bass whenever i can, especially in tournaments. The pre-spawn females will feed often as they move up to the bedding areas. This makes the biggest fish in the lake not only accessible in the spring; but also very willing to eat our artificial offerings. in other words, these bass are aggressively feeding when they are in the pre-spawn mode. Winter bass tend to suspend over deep water just above the thermocline, which is usually deep as the surface water temperature drops from fall into winter.
