ChRIS LANE

defending Bassmaster Classic champion Chris lane, from Guntersville, ala., had one of the most memorable championship reigns, because of his professionalism and dedication to being an ambassador of the sport. lane suffered the embarrassment of not catching a keeper bass on the first day of the event, and refused to let it bring him down. He came back on day two with an impressive 18-pound, 11-ounce limit of Grand lake largemouth. While it was not enough to allow him to make the top twenty- five cut it showed his character as a competitor and a spokesman of our sport.

BRANDON PALANIUK

While Pace had built more than a seven-pound lead after the second day of the event, Palaniuk, in his third classic showed how strong a competitor he is by coming to the scales with a solid bag, enough to take the lead with only Pace left to weigh. Palaniuk would eventually finish second to Pace, though his angling skills, sense of history and tradition in the sport and his passion for it continue to win over fans.
