DOBYNS

Along with former Californian Gary Dobyns’ fame for being the West’s All-Time Money Winner, he is also known for Dobyns Rods. The recent Texas transplant has a host of new products being released this year.

KADEN SERIES (KD)

The Kaden series is a creation based on a Dobyns Rods customer test program. The line will be at a price point similar to the Dobyns Sierra Series, currently one of their best-sellers. The Kaden and the Sierra feature a completely different build. While the Kaden line has distinct lengths and models than the Sierra, the unique part of the Kaden series are faster actions and full handles. Some of the standout rods in the new Kaden lineup include a never-before- released 7’3” graphite crankbait model and a 6’10” jerkbait rod developed from heavy customer-demand. Kaden components include full cork handles, Fuji reel seats, and Sea Guides. The series will boast two 7’ spinning rods, six baitcasting rods, ranging from 6’10” to 7’4”, two crankin’ rods and a 7’6” flippin’ stick. The color scheme is black and red.

SIERRA TROUT AND PANFISH (STP)

Technically, this rod line will be part of the current Dobyns Sierra series. It was strictly designed because of dealer requests to fill a market niche. Dobyns knows the West needs the trout rods, and the South needs the panfish rods. He described the diameter of the butt on the blanks as the size of a pencil. The STP rods feature solid carbon tips for super sensitivity and an ultra-light weight. The powers are rated at zero and one and lengths stretch from 6’2” to 7’9”. Line sizes will include 2- to 8-pound-test and 4- to 10-pound test. Components include Fuji reel seats, Sea Guide’s XO guides, and a split handle that offers a custom, open-eye hook keeper. The line includes 12 models, six that are one-piece, and six that are two-piece. This is a first for Dobyns Rods with a venture into the two-piece market for the portability factor. The color scheme matches the Sierra line.

ULTIMATE FINESSE CASTING (SA)

Also, an expansion of the Sierra line, the Ultimate Finesse Casting series, makes its debut for 2020. This line is designed for the anglers that are delving into the ultra-finesse baitcasting movement. Dobyns noted that the weights he had in mind for this finesse baitcasting system go as low as 1/16-ounce. The rod features solid carbon tips, an ultra-small diameter, and is super-light, both in feel and action. Although there are already requests for more models in shorter lengths, the current release includes two rods at 7’ and 7’4”. Components include Fuji reel seats and Fuji micro guides.

MIKE BUCCA SWIMBAIT (MB)

Developed especially for the Triton Mike Bucca Bull Shad swimbaits, with Mike Bucca himself, the Dobyns 8’3” MB swimbait rod comes to market. Bucca was searching for one rod that would cover 90 percent of his signature swimbaits, and with this new Dobyns rod, that reality has come to fruition. Bucca calls his 6” to 9” Bull Shad swimbait models his workhorses, and this rod can throw the gamut. The Mike Bucca signature rod features a black and red color scheme with the Bull Shad logo. Components include Fuji reel seats, Sea Guide’s XO guides, and a 14” EVA handle.

SOBI SIGNATURE (SAM)

If you follow the Film Hard, Fish Harder advice of YouTube sensation Sam Sobi, you are familiar with the “Let the Adventure Begin” motto. In his first foray into signature rods, Sobi teamed up with Dobyns for three models, a 7’2” casting rod, a 7’2” spinning rod, and a 7’6” flippin’ stick. The flippin’ stick is a full handle, while the remaining feature split-handles. The color scheme is black and gold and includes the Sobi logo and slogan. Components include Fuji reel seats and Sea Guide’s XO guides.
