all swimbaiting is one of the most excit-
ing times of the year. This one presen-
tation attracts green, brown and more
often than not, species of all types. Catching quality fish is not the only positive to
fishing glide baits; understanding how bass react
to the bait is a classroom in itself. From reser-
voirs to natural lakes, the smooth gliding action
tends to spark anxious followers, severe strikes,
and a whole host of emotions for the angler. No
matter your level, glide baits in northern waters
may be new, but they are without a doubt here
to stay.
THE PRESENTATION
Glide baits rely on the “S” pattern movement to draw and entice nearby fish. From my experience on local lakes and rivers, color and appearance do not necessarily have to be image-like in the grand scheme of things. Trout, kokanee and perch patterns are all great choices, but the key is to experiment on the retrieve to dial in the technique before choosing baits just on color alone. Flashes, close follow ups and other indicators are just the beginning when getting started. These are the types of things that gets the angler hooked on throwing bigger than normal baits for those elusive
