surface, but it will duck its head down and flip

back up. it is a killer.

When it comes to top water fishing, it is

important to have the right tackle. i use a seven

to seven- nine Fishing rod for my top water baits.

i want to control the fish. When fishing treble

hook baits, use a rod that has a softer tip and

when you use the baits that have the big style

hooks, go to a stouter rod. For the speed of the

retrieve i use an abu Garcia revo StX 7:1. it is

extremely important to use a fast speed retrieve

reel because when the fish blows up, you will

need to pick up the slack in your line as quick as possible to get the hook set. We all love top water; it is humbling as it is exciting. The stories go on. The big one got away. top water is not a morning or an evening bite, in many circumstances; it can be fished all day long.

bait will turn on a ninety degree to a one- eighty on your next flick of the rod. For a sharp walking motion, go to braid, thirty to sixty-five pound test. Braid has no stretch so this will make the bait react faster. For a more subtle walking i go to the Big Game mono as it floats, and with each motion of your rod, the line will stretch just enough to slow the bait down, keeping the bait up and making it easier to “walk”. For 2011, we added a silent version of the Big Stik. There are times when you just need to shut up and get quiet.
