be fishing. Reading through fishing magazines is another beneficial way to acquire knowledge.

This is also a good time to get more familiar with the bodies of water you’ll be fishing. This is easy to do during the winter by looking at the lake map of those lakes on the Humminbird One-Boat Network App. What is great about this App is you can save waypoints on the App and then transfer them to your Humminbird units.

WAYPOINT MANAGEMENT

During the winter months, I take the time to go through all my waypoints from the previous year and organize them. For me, I do this in the HumminbirdPC program, and

through my tackle, I look to pull out baits that I no longer use or that are broken.

You can either sell them and make a little spending money for new tackle or another positive suggestion is to donate the tackle to a youth fishing organization. This allows me to put together a shopping list for new items. Not only is this fun, but by organizing your tackle you will save time next season when you go to get a lure out of your tackle box.

GET FIT!

Throughout my life, I spent time working out and playing hockey throughout the winter. Now that I’m done playing hockey, I still stay active by doing some simple weightlifting, core exercises and running. There is no need for a complex workout; all you want to do is hit the major areas of your body that get fatigued during the fishing season.

These areas include your back, neck, arms and legs. The other activity/time that I feel is very important is taking care of your body via a chiropractor. I’ve been going to one now for over five years and it helps keep my back, joints and nerves all working together and me feeling good, which means more enjoyable and longer days on the water.
