Bass-a-rig
cold before a tournament, I would just slow down all my presentations, even in the winter, you may find yourself wanting to impart action to your baits. In my experience, you just need to let the bait do the work that has worked out best for me.
WB: What search bait/technique or advice would you suggest for kayak anglers, since they have limited area to travel?
BEACH: Stick to the points and just alternate through all your baits. You know the fish are there, you just have to figure out what they want to eat. Also, fish in the middle of the day if possible, getting out early and suffering in the cold is no fun.
WB: What safety would you suggest during the winter months to keep dry and able to self- rescues?
BEACH: Don’t go fishing by yourself, if you don’t have to. Wear the proper attire, and always bring an extra pair of clothes, and a towel with you. Tell someone where you are going, if you do go alone. •
Spoons
with a Yamamoto Twin Tail grub or a Reactions Invocation Sweet Beaver. The Grub has much more movement and the Beaver has a more subtle action. I’ll have both tied on to see what kind of mood the bass are in. Bass eat jigs pretty much every day of the year and the quality is usually better compared to the other four lures that I mentioned. I will throw it everywhere; wood and big rocks are an excellent place to target. The A-rig is a close second, again because you have a good opportunity to catch large fish and multiple fish. I will throw it everywhere just like the jig, because of its drawing power. I have caught almost all my fish on a Tactical Flex rig by Hog Farmer. They make some excellent A-rigs.
