Winter 2024
F
orward Facing Sonar is the biggest thing to hit
bass fishing in many years. In the Fall 2023
issue of WesternBass.com magazine I covered using dual Forward Facing Sonar (FFS) units; but having
this technology is only part of the equation. Knowing
how to properly use it with tools designed to optimize
its benefits makes FFS even more powerful.
ENTER THE NEWEST SOFT PLASTIC LURE FROM YAMAMOTO BAITS, THE SCOPE SHAD!
This tool was designed specifically to target bass spotted on Forward Facing Sonar, though it excels in other applications as well.
Most will pair the Scope Shad with a jig head when targeting fish spotted with FFS, though it is also deadly rigged on drop-shot, Scroungers, and Ned rigs.
Scope Shad Visual Attraction Was Designed For Forward Facing Sonar
The Scope Shad is only 3-inches long, but what it lacks in length it makes up in girth. Looking straight at the nose of the bait, the body cross-section is somewhat triangular. Visualize one flat side of the triangle at the top where the hook would protrude, and one corner of the triangle would represent the bottom edge of the belly. Having a fat body with flat sides helps to reflect sonar signals increasing visibility on FFS.
