Pure Fishing’s Abu Garcia, one of the leaders in rods and reels, introduced several new items that should excite bass anglers. With some hot trends in mind, some for the enthusiast angler looking for high-end products, and a few additions to their already solid rods and reels, here’s a full rundown of what’s new with Abu Garcia.
REVO SX SS
For Abu Garcia, the Revo name is one of their most recognizable products. They have had several generations, and the Revo SX SS is the 5th of these low-profile baitcast reels. This model was made for skipping, flipping, and pitching and comes with a fast 8.1:1 gear ratio.
It excels for those techniques because of the shallow spool and the EXD design. Some of the additional features that help with strength, ergonomics, and performance are the 22-pound Power Stack Carbon Matrix Drag, ten ball bearing system, carbon side plates, and an alloy frame. Available in October, this new reel will retail for $189.95. It will come in both right and left-handed retrieves.
ZENON MG-LTX BFS REEL AND ZENON BFS RODS
The “BFS” in the name of this reel
is for the increasingly popular “bait
finesse system” that allows anglers
to fish lightweight baits and line on
baitcast reels. That’s what this reel
was designed for and it’s very light
and can handle the downsized
baits used for the technique.
It has a light BFS Concept
Spool and MagTrax braking system
for dialing in your cast with light
baits and getting them out a long
distance. The reel also has an alloy
frame, aircraft aluminum gearing,
and a solid Carbon Matrix drag
system. It’s available for pre-order and will be available sometime this winter with a price tag of $549.95.
The rod to match this new high-end offering is the Zenon BFS casting rod, which will also come in a spinning model. The rods are also designed with casting light baits in mind, with carbon blanks that are very lightweight yet solid and sensitive thanks to Abu’s Powerlux resin system. They come with Fuji reel seats, titanium allow guides with nitride silicon inserts and a guide train designed for optimal casting. They
retail for $449.95. There are two models for casting, medium and medium light, both at 7-foot, 1-inch. The spinning models include just one, a 7-foot, 1-inch medium.
MORE ZENON RODS AND REELS
Like the Revo, the Zenon has become a popular name for Abu and sits at a premium price point with some great high-end features. This year, the ZenonX $299.95 and Zenon MGX $399.95 spinning reels are new.
They have a unique one-piece design made of aluminum and are very lightweight. The ZenonX weighs less than 7-ounce and the MGX is under 6 ounces, both incredibly light for spinning reels.
There are now eight casting and three spinning models in the Zenon lineup for rods. Abu says they are the lightest and most sensitive rods they have ever created. They have the Powerlux resin system with excellent sensitivity and superior power, including higher breaking strengths. They are premium all around and retail for $449.95.
UPDATED VENGEANCE RODS, ZATA REELS, & SOME NEW COMBOS
The Vengeance is a great budget-friendly rod, retailing for $59.99 to $69.99 and they have been redesigned with better features like 24-ton graphite blanks, stainless steel guides and hook keepers. They are lightweight, sensitive, and durable and are available in nine different models to cover just about all bass fishing techniques.
The new Zata reels have a 10+1 bearing reel with a graphite frame. It’s a solid reel offered in spinning and casting models for $189.95. For spinning, you can choose from three sizes (2000, 3000, 3500) and baitcast reels in both right and left-hand retrieves in the 6.6:1 and 7.1:1 gear ratios.
Abu Garcia has some new options for those looking to get a rod and reel paired together in a combo. One is the Zata combo with the above reel and a rod with 24-ton graphite blank and stainless steel guides. Four combinations are available (three spinning and one casting) and will retail for $229.95.
Abu Garcia continues to innovate with great products for everyone. From combos to high-end rods and reels, they added several new items this year to further cement them as one of the leaders in the fishing industry.
