Shiga prefecture located between Osaka and Nagoya metropolitan areas is primarily a pass through on Japan’s high-speed Shinkansen. Only for those informed bass fanatics is it a destination filled with abundance and immense opportunities.
“Increasing awareness and passionate people who love Biwa and fishing will have a positive effect on Shiga”, said Mori.
Fishing tourism is virtually non-existent in Japan. The limitation of lakes and the lack of fish management practices impedes opportunities for sustainable efforts that could be beneficial to regions throughout Japan and Shiga being a prime destination that could benefit from the tourism economy as well.
For all of the varying views on the sport of bass fishing in Japan, the Mother Lake Attraction provided a social gathering that embraced the surrounding community and hopefully provided the companies, creators, and anglers a platform for positive public perception moving forward. •
