EASE OF TRANSISITON
Rachel believes some of her skills from bass boat fishing have transferred to the kayak, but there is so much more to being your own boss.
“I think the fact that being a co-angler didn’t allow me to have access to the electronics like the boater, I had to learn to watch nature more,” she said. “Like watch the birds and read the water more, so I think that helps me in decisions in my kayak; BUT I also didn’t have to decide where to fish and when to leave and when to charge my batteries and, in that sense, being in kayak has helped me with those skills. So, I hope to take that with me when I do win my boat and, in a sense, move from the pointy end of the kayak to the pointy end of a bass boat.”
FISHNG, FAMILY AND FUN
For Rachel, fishing is more than competition.
“Never once did I imagine fishing tournaments out of a kayak. I always envisioned winning my boat, but God has his own plan, she said.
“Kayak fishing has been a blessing in that I get to bring my puppy (Marco) along and have my lucky fishing pup right by my side in the kayak.
“My parents travel with me from Northern California all the way to Kentucky or Alabama. I love having them with me. Time goes by way too fast, and we’ve got to cherish every moment. What a great journey this has been. I wouldn’t change the experience one bit.”
