Winter 2023

Obedie won the brackets with an average of six-pounds per fish.

“Even my marshals said they couldn’t believe it,” he said. “When they handed me my trophy, I thought this is crazy. You never know when your next win is coming, so I just had to take it all in. It was amazing and for all my guys from the Delta to hand me my flowers. It was just a magical event.”

BACK FOR WINDY WEDNESDAY

Clint and Obedie hooked up for another win at the Windy Wednesdays and while the Wednesday Nighters may seem like a turkey shoot to some, for those that fish it, it is real competition.

“You always have to tip your hat to the winners of that because the real ‘Delta Boys’ come out for it,” he said. “So, it was good one and continued the roll.”

While that seems like an incredible year, it wasn’t the end of Obedie’s season.

SUMMER SHOOTOUT

He fished the Delta Summer Shootout with his son and won it with over 40-pounds for the two-days.

“It was one of the best tournaments of the year, because I got to win it with my son,” said Obedie.

It may have been one of the best, but that wasn’t even the last check O would cash for the 2022 year.

MORE CHECKS

Obedie finished 3rd in the WWBT Delta Pro/Am with 58.57. “The weather changed up on me the last day and

I just wasn’t prepared,” he said. “Normally I would have some backup, but I didn’t get anything that week. An eight- pounder helped keep me up there up, but you just can’t slip up on the Delta, like that.”

The Big Bass Challenge, with its hourly Big Bass payouts came to the tidal waters in late Sept.

Obedie cashed in on first place checks in one of the hours on Day One and Day Two. His 9.93 was the Big Bass of the event and earned him a spot in the Super-12.

“I thought that 9.93 was an 11- or 12-pounder, it felt so big; but I never caught a 10-pounder this year,” he said. “I’m not complaining because those sevens, eights, and nines are the game changers of all game changers, but I just haven’t been able to find those 10’s this year. I am not going to stop looking and I will find them again.”

HOW

For those with inquiring minds, we asked O which bait was his go-to for all the Delta bass this year.

“Punchin’, for sure,” he said. “No particular plastic or brand – just punchin’ whatever.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

I know I won’t do good in all of them, but I am going to try to good in the big ones. Sometimes I may come back with only two, but that’s because I’m trying for the big ones. I’m going to keep puttin’ my time in on the Delta and keep tryin’ to get better.

You got to look out for those young ones comin’ up. You look at ‘em and you just know they’re going to be a problem. They’re coming for it. Just like I did, years ago and what I have learned is no matter what boat you’ve got or what

gear you’ve got, if

you want to win, get

out there and work.

It doesn’t happen

overnight, but you

can get there.

This year was

an amazing ride and

we’re going to get

back at it next year –

more gorditas, more

younders, more belly

shirts, more muffin

tops. I love it and I

love being a part of

this sport, and being

ambassador for the

Delta.

Congratulations

to the People’s

Champ – Obedie
