DROPSHOT
BAIT: Dropshot rig COLOR(S): green pumpkin, purple ROD/REEL: 7’ to 7’3”, medium power, fast
action spinning rod with a 3000-
size spinning reel LINE: 10-pound braided line to 8-pound
fluorocarbon leader PRO TIP(S): When the bass won’t eat or
stop eating, Cook will move from
the jigging spoon to the dropshot
rig. He almost exclusively uses a
3/8-ounce weight to get it down
to the bass in the deeper water.
Cook is a fan of the smaller baits
this time of year and will opt to
use a #2 size hook and four-inch
baits. His color choice is different
than most anglers. He will choose
green pumpkin or purple, even
when the bass are eating shad,
just to show them something
different. He suggested a reel set
for better hookup ratios.

NEKO RIG
BAIT: Neko rig COLOR(S): green pumpkin ROD/REEL: 7’ to 7’3”, medium power, fast action spinning rod with a 3000-size spinning reel LINE: 10-pound braided line to 8-pound fluorocarbon leader PRO TIP(S): Cook uses the Neko Rig to catch suspended fish on the fall and to pick them off on the
bottom when they won’t eat the jig. He likes a 3/16-ounce weight almost exclusively and would
rather drag it than shake it. •
