Do you really know Bub Tosh

Winter 2019

to it, is there something … one thing that you would attribute this all to?

BUB: This year was different; but it wasn’t a different because of a bait, or a technique or anything that people keep wanting to hear. It was a mental change. I have the most stable home life, work life, sponsor life, financial life than I have ever had in my life. It just makes it easier to just fish. I know guys want me to say that it’s about a swivel or a crankbait or whatever; but it just really isn’t.

WB: Will the wins change your life in anyway?

BUB: Nope. Don’t get me wrong winning is absolutely amazing and fishing is my passion. It’s a high that you cannot duplicate - until you win again and again and again; but the money that the anglers get... well, it isn’t really life-changing in the West. I got an average of $15K each for those two WWBT three-day major event wins and then about $55K cash and a boat I have to sell for the rest of the money in the U.S. Open and no money for the Bass Nation event. The money is nice; but it’s not what I fish for. Now, I have a job to get money - to pay bills. I fish because I love it! I love it, like I can’t even explain.

WB: Would you consider taking the plunge as a Tour or Series angler?

BUB: No. Again, don’t take that the wrong way. It’s my dream to fish. It is what I always thought I do. But there isn’t enough money to do it.
