GRAND RE- OPENING

San Vicente re-opened the week of September 22 nd ; however a dispute between contractors and the cables that hold the courtesy dock in place, kept the original opening day a guess to many anglers.

The few anglers who were lucky enough to fish the lake during the first week were not disappointed. Many anglers were greeted with 100 - 200 fish days.

I caught up with Rick and Kyle Grover of Angler’s Marine in Anaheim, Calif. to get a full report about the hype surrounding the opening of the lake.

The Grovers fished the lake on September 22 nd and again on September 26 th . According to Rick, the lake allows for 140 launches, which includes both fishing and general boating. Amenities included a seven lane launch ramp, new docks, a weigh station for tournaments, restrooms, and a brand new concession stand stocked with food and bait.

the water skiing. In fact, a large part of the lake is sectioned off for water skiing on Thursday through Sunday, with Mondays being devoted entirely to fishing. Anglers fishing the lake on one of the sanctioned waterski days may be prevented from fishing in the waterski areas.

100 BASS DAYS

“The fishing was better than anything that I have ever seen,” Rick said. “I have fished El Salto and other Mexican lakes and San Vicente was better than all

of those places. The fishing was

easy.”

The overcast conditions on

the Grovers’ first visit to the lake

resulted in a decent shallow water

bite on reaction baits such as small

swimbaits and spinnerbaits. As

the day progressed, the Grovers

started targeting bass in 20- to

40-feet of water with crawdad

colored Phenix jigs and blue vein

8- to 10-inch Texas-rigged straight

tail worms.

“The deeper fish were very

healthy and the shallow fish had big

heads and skinny bodies,” said Rick.
