ass fishing has evolved into a high tech
sport where knowing how to read elec-
tronic fish finders and internet mapping
software is now a standard part of prepar- ing for a fishing trip.
The new electronics that are on the market, such
as a Lowrance Gen 3 HDS, the mapping software that
is available via the internet and cellphone apps are far
more advanced compared to the days of paper graphs
and old lake maps.
This article will focus on how you can stay
connected to the technology that will help you catch
more fish.
CONVENIENCE
The new technology that is available allows anglers to master the art of pre-fishing from the comfort of their home.
Lowrance’s new generation of Gen 3 fish finders come standard with Wi-Fi built in. What is the benefit of having Wi-Fi in a fish finder? Companies understand that modern anglers most likely have a smartphone, tablet, electronic mapping software,

or a host of other devices that are becoming commonplace out on the water. Wi-Fi allows anglers to connect all of these electronic devices and run them via their fish finder. The technology also exists to raise or lower Power-Poles using the Wi-Fi through the HDS head unit or a smartphone.
How will this help an angler catch more bass?
REAL-TIME MAPPING
Anglers such as Ranger Pro Tony Lain understand that staying in tune with today’s technology is a great benefit to having an advantage out on the water. “I spend a lot of time during the winter scouting new lakes and areas for the upcoming season.” Lain says, “I am able to connect my Lowrance HDS 12 Touch Screen to my Navionics app on my phone to make live maps of the lakes that I fish.”
According to Lain, he uses the Wi-Fi in his fish finder to connect to the Navionics app on his iPhone. Connecting his devices such as phones and tablets via Wi-Fi allows Lain to use the readings from his depth finder to make real time updates to the maps of the lakes that he fishes.
