Here is your quick repair kit for such instances:

 A number of white kitchen trash bags

 A dozen or so diaper wipes in a zip lock bag

 Several dry micro fleeces (towels) in another zip lock bag

WHAT ARE THE KITCHEN BAGS FOR?

Ah, open one and slide it over your rods butts and up over you reels when trailering in the rain or cold. Instant rain jacket, and it works!

DIAPER WIPES?

This is mainly for you Delta Rats. Diaper wipes will help dissolve and wick away any salinity on the outside of your reels. Remember, what’s on the out- side of your reels has a way of getting into the inside, guaranteed. If you can get the spools out even better. Wipe the spool edges and internal races of the reel’s frame to ensure no salt sits between the aluminum

spool and the frame.

AND FOR THE MICRO FLEECES?

Use them to wipe the reels dry, dry, dry. A lot of guys are already carrying these to wipe the boat down. Use this type of drying cloths not only dry the reel really well, it pulls off any grime that may be there.

Wait, the job isn’t done yet. We’ve all opened a locker compartment and found mold in it. That mold can occur internally within the reel, causing corrosion issues on the gearing. When you get home, get the rods/reels in a heated area, be it a bedroom or hall- way. At this point your reels need to dry out thor- oughly without condensation. This includes any rods/ reels that may be in your rod locker(s).

Follow or at least make an attempt at the above suggestions and you will definitely extend the proper performance of your reels between servicing.
