or that read the previous on article, you may recall, i referred to a sponsorship as a “marketing partnership” with a company that is selling a product or service. How successful this partnership becomes is only lim- ited by your own imagination. The sky is the limit, just look at the industry, guys on local, regional and national television shows, writing or featured in national magazines, conducting seminars and speaking engagements and writing articles in a multitude of media out-

lets. The guys doing these things put themselves in the right position to get opportunities to secure sponsorships. You can put yourself in similar situa- tions in this sport and get your opportunities also. i ended the previous article with a saying... always do more than you get paid for”. i have talked to some guys wanting sponsorships who tell me that they would be glad to write articles, work trade shows or even conduct seminars if they were getting paid to do so. Part of creating opportunities for yourself in the fishing industry is doing some or all of the things i refer to above on your own. When you write articles that get published, or speak at club events for example, this is the kind of thing that will build your resume. i’ll talk more about resumes later.

Since perusing sponsorships is a very important step you are taking in your fishing career, i believe you need to make a “decision” about what you want out of this sport. You will need to be “all in” about that decision. This is your life. We only live it once before God calls us home. if you are like me i’m sure you don’t want to have regrets later
