CLARA: My partner and I got a 2nd place finish in the Snag Proof on the Delta. That was an accomplishment and also, I got a AAA big fish on the first day of the 2018 California Open. That was especially good after the motor breaking two hours into the day. Mostly, I just have fun showing up and seeing friends.

WB: Do you have a fishing goal?

CLARA: My biggest one is to catch a double-digit this year.

We are sure Clara will have an awesome time, trying to meet that double-didge challenge. She is currently sponsored by Jackson Kayak, Simms and Hayabusa. •

WB: What would you say your home water is?

CLARA: I grew up in Alameda and now I live in Santa Cruz; so, I love salt fishing and especially the charter boats and the atmosphere of all the people. But I keep my bass boat at Russo’s. So, I would say the Delta. I do love the calm of the lakes as an escape. So, that answer might change with my mood.

WB: What is your favorite technique?

CLARA: I really like a jig. I don’t mind the slowness of it… the dragging and “painful slowness” of it. I would rather do that and catch a big one, then something else and get a bunch of dinks.

WB: What is your most memorable catch?

CLARA: My spotted bass from a trip with Larry at Bullard’s Bar. It was 7-2. It was the first time I went to Bullard’s. I caught it on a wacky-rigged Senko, weightless without an O-ring. It was a new color at the time. We were calling it blue pearl.

WB: What is your most memorable tournament experience?
