a 6.5-inchworm and the color that worked magic was a new brown purple laminate.

I was able to fish that new worm on a power dropshot with my Daiwa 7’1” Tatula Elite Power Spin Rod. I threw nothing but my Tatula Spinning Rods the whole time and caught 83-pounds for two days. My biggest fish was 7-pounds.and I made the Knockout Round.

When we got into the Knockout Round, we started over again at zero. We had about a 25 MPH wind on that day. Most of my fish had ran out of the areas I had been fishing; so, I went looking for some new areas and caught a lot of little ones.

I never really found a new area that was good enough to compete. I caught 26 pounds that day; but that was only good enough for 34th out of 40. I still got a check and got the points that left me right where I was in 34th.

FISHING FOR RED CREST

To qualify for the year-end MLF Bass Pro Tour Red Crest Event, you have to be in the top-30 in points. It is our $300,000 Classic event.

Being in 34th is not a bad place to be right now right – close to that bubble for the end of the year.

ON THE DL

I can’t tell you too much about it; but after that Chickamauga event, I competed in an Ultimate Match Fishing event for the Outdoor Channel with Joe Thomas. Thomas has hosted that show for the last 14 years. There are eight guys in the show and it last for almost a week. It will air on the outdoor channel in July.

GIVING BACK

Right now, we are on break at home and getting ready to load up and go fish a charity tournament for Alabama’s children’s hospital that my family and I help with every year.

The son of a friend of mine, has a congenital heart disease. Andrew is his name and he is treated at a pediatric heart center for children in Birmingham, Ala. They do a lot a lot for a lot of people all over the country, with little babies and children.

So, we do this event every year to help give back to the hospital. I donate a fishing trip on Guntersville that raised $2000 this year. This is the fourth year now, and they’ve raised over $500,000! It’s a big team tournament and they have a Friday night banquet for all of the contestants and workers from the hospital, and some of the doctors that perform the miraculous surgeries on the kids get to enjoy a day of fishing as well.

This year, my 13-year-old son Oakley and I are going to fish in the tournament for the parent/child division. It’s open to anybody, including pros. So, several pros are going to fish it with their children. My other son, Laker, will fish it in the team competition; so, we will all get to have a little family tournament. It’ll be a fun Saturday and a little competition between brothers.

As soon as that’s over will head right out to Smith Lake which is only about a half an hour away from where we live, and we will start the MLF Bass Pro Tour practice

FAMILY UPDATE

In between the Chickamauga tournament, my

boys had a high school Bass

Nation High School Tournament at

Lake Wheeler. Both boys finished

11th. One in the Junior Division and

one in the Senior Division.

Laker and his team partner

are leading the points in the

state of Alabama in the Bass

Nation High School Division.

There is something like 300

teams and they have one

tournament left at Weiss lake.

It is during the weekend that I

am fishing at Smith lake; so, I have a

friend who is going to be their boat

captain. Hopefully they can go out

there catch enough fish to finish

out and win the points before he

goes out and fishes at the College

level. That would be a neat little

feather in his cap.

We are looking forward to lots

of great fishing ahead! Thanks

for following us at Randy Howell

We’ll catch you up in the next

round! Good luck and God bless! •
