You will also notice the LIVE has a tighter fitting cover to protect your investment that can remain on the unit while trailering at highway speeds.

TIP for easy cover removal: insert your fingertips of both hands in the cover’s side slots, press both thumbs in the middle of the cover to bend it slightly in, and then pull away the cover.

A high resolution SolarMAX HD multi-touch screen operates like your smartphone, but is much easier to see in bright sunlight, even when wearing polarized sunglasses. LIVE has built-in dual-channel CHIRP sonar that can simultaneously display two different frequencies from the same transducer. LIVE has built-in support for Active Imaging, a Heat Map Chart Overlay feature, touchscreen control of Power-Pole anchors, SonicHub audio, and already built-in capability for the new StructureScan 3D with Active Imaging transducer which will debut this fall.

LIVE MAPPING

Getting up-to-date accurate charts of any body of water is difficult. The new LIVE units solve this problem by providing “Live Mapping.” Live Mapping lets you create your map with one-half foot contours in real time, saving them as you go to a microSD card.

Did the lake or river level change since your last trip, making your depths wrong? No problem, with Live Mapping your chart will be updated each trip on the water.

You can create truly customizable live maps that reveal bass-holding spots like rockpiles, ditches, humps, structure, and more.

You can color-code multiple depth ranges to help you follow a depth pattern and find key structure that before went unnoticed.

You can change the contour transparency, contour density, depth and safety shading color palettes, and more.

Automatic routing helps you navigate in the fog or in unknown waters with shallows and obstructions. The LIVE units are preloaded with C-MAP US Enhanced Inland and Coastal mapping.

LIVESIGHT

Totally new for Lowrance is the integration into all LIVE units of “live sonar” which is called LiveSight.

As of April 1, (no fooling) the new LiveSight transducer became available – which when connected to your LIVE, will let you see real time bait and fish movements, and your lure movement.

Watch bass react to your lure and learn what will work and what will not! With LiveSight you are virtually sight- fishing underwater.

The frequency of this special transducer is optimized to give you the greatest range and clarity combination. When mounted on the shaft of a trolling motor it can be used to

view real-time fish and lure movements in front of and around the boat, or it can be positioned to view directly below the boat for vertical fishing.

your incoming text messages,

and lets you send simple

response messages while your phone remains dry and secure in a compartment.

Notifications are completely user selectable, so if you don’t want your day on the water interrupted by the world, you can simply turn off this feature.

SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION

Never before available technology is built into the LIVE-12 and LIVE-16 units, called “Live Cast SmartPhone Integration.” By connecting an HDMI cable between your LIVE-12 and your smart phone or tablet, you can stream video to your LIVE unit in real time.

Stream your favorite weather app, and never miss another ball game or televised fishing tournament while out on your boat with Live Cast!

You can also charge your phone by connecting your charging cable to the built-in USB port on the LIVE-12 and LIVE-16, and with the ability to view six different panels at once, you can multitask (HDMI and USB ports and 6-panel view are not available for the 7 and 9).

REMOTE USE

Seems all technology now has remote control, and the HDSLIVE is no exception. With Bluetooth capability you can get as an accessory the new Lowrance Remote Controller LR-1 (works with HDS LIVE and Carbon). While the value of a remote control might not seem immediately evident, many will welcome it as another tool.

The LR-1 lets you control your display from anywhere on your boat. Save waypoints without bending down and taking your eyes off the water when navigating shallow rocks or marking bass beds. Zoom the chart in and out from the remote. You can set the remote’s buttons for five additional user-programmable functions without touching your display.

To be honest, I don’t miss the old days before technology was available. Because of new technology fishing never gets boring. Anyone can learn new and better ways to find fish, and experience new levels of excitement.

By the time you read this article, Lowrance will have revealed the next level of technology, a Lowrance-designed and manufactured electric motor with innovative features that will fully integrate with Lowrance LIVE fishfinders. But that will be the subject of a future article!
