Summer buzzbait bite with Nate Boomhower

surface creating violent and vicious strikes that will produce fish and create memories that you will never forget.

Unlike your traditional buzzbait, the GrassBurner is designed to be used in open water. Two of my favorite places to fish the buzzbait is in shallow water with vegetation right below the surface or throwing it along grass lines where bass tend to hide to ambush their prey.

GEAR

When fishing buzzbaits, I like to use a rod with a fast tip. My choice is an Omen Black 7’3” Heavy rod paired with a Concept C 7.3:1 reel by 13 Fishing. This combo is amaz- ing and will work for every type of buzzbait. The reel has enough drag strength to get the fish out of heavy cover, while it’s also really smooth when fishing open water. It’s super versatile!

When choosing line, I like to run 50- to 65-pound braid for fishing heavy vegetation. When fishing open water, I will run 10- to 15-pound monofilament. I like using monofilament because the line floats and the stretch will help elimi- nate the hooks from ripping out of the fish’s mouth when the fish strikes.

All in all, buzzbait fishing is a great way to locate and catch bass, even if they are not feeding. Buzzbaits create a totally

different style of fishing and an experience that most Anglers are not accustomed to. I highly recommend dusting off your buzzbaits and throwing them this summer. You will not regret it!
