H
ow many times have you spent a day on
the water not planning to catch a bass?
If you are a tournament angler, you’ve
possibly spent a few practice days on the water just seeing how many bites you could get
without sticking too many. But, a tournament an-
gler who is competing in the springtime most likely
does not even want to truly get a bite.
With the bass in the shallows, being able to see
them is often enough, and Elite Series pro John Mur-
ray, who won the 2017 Bassmaster Elite Series event on Toledo Bend in April, said he wanted his practice to “show him where to fish.” Rather than fish and run the risk of hooking a bunch of quality fish, Murray said he turned to a big bait to draw the fish out to be able to see where they came from.
The Spring City, Tenn. pro said that his practice method for shallow water tournaments is designed to save big bites for competition days.
