I
t’s that time of year again! Hot days, warm
nights and increased water temperatures!
These are all the ingredients that lead to ex-
ceptional topwater action, which is by far my favorite way to catch big bass. There’s no way to
really describe what
it’s like
to watch the topwater
bait moving across the
surface of the water
and then actually see
the bass strike. It is
so exciting and really
fun!
TOPWATER TEMPS
The topwater bite tends to turn on during pre- spawn when the

water temperatures reach the 60›s and continues all the way through post spawn and into summer when the temperatures are 80 degrees plus.
You will find the fish in shallow water early in the morning, roaming the banks looking for an easy meal.
Later they will be running a little bit deeper or
under cover as the sun
comes up and the
water temperature
starts to rise.
There are a lot
of topwater baits on
the market to choose
from. Options range
from hollow-body frogs,
walking baits, poppers,
chuggers, and prop baits.
