I

can’t remember ever going to a body of water

to fish in California when I didn’t have a drop-

shot rig tied on a rod. Like many anglers in the

West, I viewed a dropshot rig as something to have ready at all times. Whether I was on one of the

lakes, on the Delta or Clear Lake; there were plenty

of times that it was the only thing that could get a

bite.

Of course there were adjustments to the rig

itself depending on the cover; heavier line, different

hooks and baits, but the concept remained the

same; I had to have the dropshot rig ready. Now that I’m fishing different waters in the South, many of the waters are more like rivers than a reservoir, and I’ve found that I have to have a different setup ready all the time.
