of water that will float your boat. Lowrance units with a card slot come with the ability to record (log) your sonar and GPS data onto SD cards. With a low cost annual subscription of $99, you can upload this data to the Insight Genesis cloud service where it will be converted into a high quality map. The map is then download and used on your Lowrance unit.
These custom maps show detailed contours, and you can change the contour intervals. Unlike typical mapping cards, Insight Genesis maps show rock layers and even underwater vegetation layers. Now you created a precise map full of useful information, and you can follow the edge of a weed bed or rock pile to fish the sweet spots efficiently.
So you say you would rather fish than map your lake bottom? I thought the same at first, but no longer. Turns out you don’t have to build your map all
at once. Each day you go fishing
simply remember to record your
trip on an SD card. As you run or
fish new areas, you continue to
build your chart. Once you upload
each day’s trip, Insight Genesis
will assemble each trip into a
single chart. You can adjust for
changing water levels so you
maintain depth accuracy.
Once I built my first map of a
local lake I was astounded to find a deep hump that I never before noticed. My other maps showed no clue of this hump that topped out in 52 feet of water. On the next trip out I fished this hump for the first time, and nailed 3 nice winter-time smallmouth bass. Suddenly this Insight Genesis made great sense!
Stay tuned for more tips on getting the technological edge on your fishing competition. There are new capabilities just around the corner, and I promise to let you in on their practical use before most have even heard of them. Ciao!
