of FFS. Wherever those three LEDs are pointing that is precisely where your FFS beam will be aimed, making it simple to find your jerkbait on the sonar screen. Just turn the wheel until the three LEDs are pointed toward your cast. Making small adjustments with your toe are easy to quickly pick up your lure on your sonar screen.

Your rod selection for hard jerkbaits is extremely important. You need a parabolic bend to slowly load up and give a bass a chance to turn after the strike, and to keep the bass pinned to the lure during the fight. Lures with treble hooks are easy to throw but a soft parabolic bend acts as a shock absorber when bass shake their head or jump out of the water. A parabolic bend absorbs the movement and maintains line tension, preventing slack that causes lures to fly out of the mouth of the bass.

Sharp hooks are critical, so I use Gamakatsu G-Finesse trebles. On the Lightning Pointer and Staysee go with the #3 size as the light wire allows you to go bigger than stock while maintaining the horizontal attitude when suspended. Line is 10-pound-test

fluorocarbon for Pointer Minnows and Lightning Pointers, 12 lb. test fluorocarbon line for Staysee and other deep divers. I also replace the split ring with a stainless-steel snap (except for Staysee).

A loose drag is important to prevent lightly-hooked bass from tearing out the hook. As Mama Pesce pulls drag when turning away from the boat it is common for a second treble to also hook the bass, increasing your odds of landing the big bass.

New tools for old tricks. Hard jerkbaits like the Lucky Craft Pointer 76 and the Lightning Pointer 90 are deadly in their own right. Add FFS in the mix and the added control and visibility of your lure and the bass is the jelly to your peanut butter! Ciao! @marcmarcantonio •
