ased on the internet chatter, I thought it was

going to be easy to see my lure on my new

Livescope unit. I’d even been in the boat with a number of pros who had it, and on their screens, an

1/8-ounce drop-shot weight lit up like the dropping ball in

Times Square. It had to be plug and play, right?

I mean, how hard could it be?

Turns out, it’s pretty darn hard.

Just because someone hands you a Stradivarius doesn’t

mean you can sit in with the symphony.

I was frustrated at first.

Yes, I found and caught some fish that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about, but I knew that I wasn’t using my forward-facing sonar to the maximum of its abilities.

I could occasionally get a glimpse of my jerkbait or glide bait on the screen, but then it could quickly disappear, returning only intermittently. For me, it wasn’t a reliable tool, and that bred not only frustration, but also an inclination to go back to my bank beating ways.
