Bassmasters on TV. I grew up watching Hank Parker, Denny Brower. I even remember when Kevin VanDam came along. I remember when he was a rookie and now, he is a superstar!”
Pierson always felt he would make it to the big leagues.
“It just seemed like I would get there; but also, I felt like I was running out of opportunities,” he said. “I am 47-years-old, now, so I felt like I was running out of time. But now, I am on my way. It’s amazing and it’s amazing that I am the only guy from California on the Elites. It’s pretty cool knowing that.”
GO-TO TECHNIQUES
Pierson explained that finesse style fishing was his preferred technique “I like darter heads and dropshots and Texas-rigs,” he said. Those are probably my favorite. I like to watch KVD; but I don’t have the same style. I just really like finesse.”
Patience was the factor that he credited as his strong point. “It does not bother me to fish slow and I can use that to my advantage,” he said. “Fishing slow drives a lot of guys nuts. If they have to sit on a point for longer than 10 minutes, they cannot stand it.
“For me, if I am catching fish, I will stay on a spot half the day. I love throwing reaction just as well. It’s not like I cannot go fast; but I have the patience to be slow when it is needed.”
