Big laydowns are a good place to look for Bream
“I’m looking for any big laydowns; that’s where the bream show up first, so the big fatties will stage here to look for easy meals,” Reese said.
Any piece of wood adjacent to common spawning areas
can be good, but location
plays a role worth
considering. It’s really
all about access; both
in terms of feeding and
creature comforts.
“On the Delta, I
like laydowns that get
washed by current,
so the fish are just
waiting for something
to swim by,” Reese
said. “Generally, around
a point is going to be a
good ambush spot.
“On Clear Lake,
you want to find
something that sticks
out a little farther than
the others; something
a little different. That
would be anywhere,
but having deep water
close by is probably the
most important thing.”
