his past winter’s storms have etched their
mark on the Golden State. Many of California’s
popular fisheries will hold water levels not
seen in recent memory. It is anticipated that the remarkable changes will add another piece to our
angler’s ever-changing, bass-catching puzzle. It is
a notion that many anglers have been considering–
including one of the State’s Elite Series pros – Skeet
Reese.
“This year fishing is going to be much different than
the past 10-years,” said Reese, who makes his home in
Auburn, Calif. “Bait selection is going to be different and
bait colors are going to be different. We will have
more water color and more habitat in the
water.
“There is going to be a lot of flooded
dead grasses, buck brush and shoreline
stuff that is underwater now; but hasn’t
been subsurface in many years. When
we get these full pools, the fish are going
to have habitat that they haven’t had in
a long, long time. I think that is going to
make it a shallow water fishing paradise.
It’s not going to be your traditional dropshot,
finesse techniques that it has been for some
time now.”
