North facing banks, long staging points and other key areas always stand out when looking at a map. Brandon Card utilizes his Navionics card to find these areas and can quickly zoom in and out to find more key areas to target.

“It’s really easy to see the areas you want to be targeting on an electronic chart,” added the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series Rookie of the Year. “Another thing that I do is pay attention to the weather and then I can easily find areas that have

had wind blowing into them

for the

previous days as these areas will congregate baitfish.”

Card monitors the wind speed and direction closely in the days and weeks leading up to getting on the

water and then uses that to find windblown areas on his map. The same weather patterns can also give him clues on water clarity and possibly even water temperature, two important factors for spring fishing.

POWER-POLES

Power-Poles have proven to be a very popular option for bass anglers who are sight-fishing for bedding bass. They keep the boat in place and allow anglers to fish for bedding fish more effectively, but Card believes they are just as important in the pre- spawn period. “Right after the fish move from the staging points, they are going to stop on obvious places like laydowns, logs and bushes. I use my Power-Poles to keep me in position when pitching to the cover over and over,” added Card.

With the advances in technology for bass anglers it makes sense to utilize them to their potential no matter what season it is. Professional anglers like Brandon Card realize that each of these tools can help

him find more fish and in a shorter amount of

time.
