’m constantly searching for fresh ways to
catch more bass. We all are.
That’s why I fish
with new and unfamiliar rigs—hoping to find one that
does a job that I don’t already
have a tool for.
Once found, it quickly
becomes a part of my fishing
arsenal.
TWIN TREBLES
I learned to fish a soft- bodied jerkbait, like the Yamamoto D-Shad, with a single off-set hook. This presentation worked great for targeting largemouth around cover. I, however, missed a lot of fish, especially smallmouth and spotted bass, fishing in open water. I looked for a way to convert my missed strikes

into hook-ups,
and that’s when I
stumbled upon the
double treble hook
rig.
Several years
ago, I was topwater
fishing for spotted
bass on Lake Lanier
with a friend and after
several missed strikes,
my friend picked up a
soft jerkbait. At first
glance, nothing looked
strange about his rig.
But after looking closer,
I saw two treble hooks
attached to his jerkbait. I didn’t interrogate my friend—at least not right away. I waited until after he caught several fish before peppering him with
