vibration making them ideal for fishing deep, in murky water, or at night.

An Indiana blade falls between Colorado and willow leaf blades. This shape adds flash and decreases vibration. They can be fished faster than Colorado blades, making them better suited for active bass in stained to clear water.

In vegetation, willow blades are best. Their long, thin profile makes them snag- resistant and weed-resistant. They create a lot of flash, which imitates a baitfish. If everybody is using willow leaf blades, use a different blade to give the fish a different look.

COLOR

Everyone’s favorite topic, color, still holds for spinnerbaits. Most fishermen begin with silver blades in clear water and gold or copper blades in murky water. Clear water and shallow fish may require a switch to white blades to reduce flash.

When it comes to color of skirt, match the hatch. Some people heavily insist on having red somewhere on the bait. On the skirt or a blade or trailer hook, this is for reasons of the predator bass and red makes the bait look like wounded prey.

FRAMES

There are even different types of wire frames, more specifically the length of the top wire. There are long wire versions, which can be fished anywhere, but are especially suitable to grass or brushy cover. Short wire frames are fished in any situation, but work very well to drop or helicopter off ledges.

OPTIONS

Trailer hooks are personal preference. Some people never fish a spinnerbait without one and others only use if needed. I only use a trailer hook if the bite is tough, in a tournament situation or am getting short strikes from fish. You can find trailer hooks ready to attach and fish out of the package

or you can customize

your own when you find some version that works best for you.

You can add a trailer for more appeal and buoyancy. Adding a trailer hook can increase your hookup success.

IN USE

Now that you understand the components behind spinnerbaits, knowing when and how to fish them should be easy, but I’ll still give you the rundown. Spinnerbaits can be fished nearly in any condition, year round.

Windy, overcast conditions are when this bait out performs most other baits, which is why I prefer to fish it in the spring more than any other time of year myself. The calmer, sunnier and clearer the water, the less productive spinnerbaits can be in shallow water. They also can be effective in deep water on bright sunny days.

It is also a great search tool to tell you if active bass are in an area, because you can cover big flats quickly. You can pull it through sparse grass, bump it into stumps, fish it down the sides of docks and pull it over rocks out deep. It’s a great multipurpose tool for a lot of scenarios in bass fishing.

Keep in mind this lure works best when imitating a wounded bait fish, so bumping the lure against structure, letting it fall to the bottom then
